Memento Mori – Privacy Policy
In short. Memento Mori asks you one question a day. If you click an answer, the extension sends three things to our server: a random ID, the date, and your 1–5 answer. We collect no personal information from you, no browsing data, and nothing that identifies you.
What stays on your device
These are saved by Chrome on your computer and are never sent anywhere:
- Your settings: on/off, pauses, and the days and hours you chose.
- Your answers and the chart and averages drawn from them.
- The time of day each reminder appeared, used only to work out your personal patterns (for example, “you rate mornings highest”).
- Your patterns and insights. They are calculated on your device.
If you uninstall the extension, Chrome deletes all of this.
What is sent to our server
Only when you click an hourglass (or press 1–5) on a reminder, the extension sends:
- A random install ID. A random code generated when you installed the extension. It is not derived from you, your account, your browser or your computer. Its only purpose is to make sure one install is counted once per day.
- The date of the answer.
- Your answer, a number from 1 to 5.
If you close the reminder, press Skip, or never see it, nothing is sent. The “Preview reminder” button never records or sends anything.
What we do not collect
- No name, email address, account, or sign-in. The extension has none.
- No browsing history, page contents, tabs, or websites you visit.
- No location, and no device or browser fingerprint.
- Our server code does not read or store your IP address or other connection details.
- No analytics, advertising, or tracking tools, in the extension or on our server.
The community average
When you open the extension’s popup, it may ask our server for the public average answer of the last seven days. This request carries no install ID and no information about your answers. The average is shown only when at least 5 answers from at least 5 different installs back it, so it can never reveal an individual’s answer.
How the data is used
Answers are used to compute anonymous statistics: the average answer per day and how answers are distributed, which only the developer sees, plus the public seven-day average described above. Answers are not used for advertising, profiling, or any other purpose.
Sharing and hosting
We do not sell, rent, or share data with anyone. The server runs on Cloudflare (Workers and D1 database), which hosts it on our behalf. As with any website, requests to our server pass through Cloudflare’s network. We use the data only for the purposes described in this policy, in line with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
How long data is kept, and deleting it
Anonymous answers are kept for as long as the service operates. Because the install ID is random and linked to nothing about you, we cannot tell which answers are yours. When you uninstall the extension, your ID is deleted from your device, after which the answers you sent can no longer be tied to you or to anyone.
Why the extension needs its permissions
alarms– to wake the extension once a day at the random time chosen.storage– to save your settings, answers and chart on your device.- Access to
memento-mori-api.focus-extension.workers.dev– to send your optional 1–5 answer and to read the public average. It is the only website the extension contacts.
The extension does not read any web page and has no access to your tabs or browsing.
Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top. If a change affects what is collected, the extension’s store listing will say so.
